Report: Former 49ers defensive end Omenihu tears ACL, will miss Super Bowl

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A broken-heart emoji on social media isn’t usually a good sign from a player who left a game with an injury.

Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in the Chiefs’ 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, according to a report from James Palmer of NFL Network.

On Monday, Omenihu sent out a tweet containing only the aforementioned emoji.

This means no Super Bowl LVIII for Omenihu against his team for the previous 11/2 seasons, the 49ers.

Omenihu played 26 games for the 49ers over 1 1/2 seasons after they acquired him from the Houston Texans at the 2021 trade deadline.

Omenihu suffered the injury in the second quarter on Sunday. Earlier in the quarter he had sacked Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and forced a fumble that teammate George Karlaftis recovered.

After serving a six-game suspension to open the season, Omenihu became part of the defensive end rotation and recorded a personal-best seven sacks in 11 games.

He played six snaps on Sunday with Karlaftis and Mike Danna getting the majority of the snaps.

Malik Herring played 14 snaps; he had been inactive for 10 games but has played in each playoff game.
