Prep roundup: Campolindo, Branham win again, Benicia hands Ygnacio Valley first league defeat

Campolindo 67, Las Lomas 53

After the results Monday night, Campolindo will be playing for the outright lead in the Diablo Athletic League in its next game.

Campo stayed hot, winning at home over Las Lomas as Gavin Rendle, Dylan Mansour and Tim Smith led the way.

The victory improved the Cougars’ record to 20-4 overall and 9-1 in the DAL. They moved into a tie first with Ygnacio Valley, which lost at home to Benicia 66-56 on Monday.

Campo visits Ygnacio Valley on Wednesday, then closes out the regular-season schedule Friday at home against Northgate.

The DAL tournament is next week.

In its win Monday, Rendle made five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points. Mansour added 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Smith contributed a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds).

Campo has won six in a row. Las Lomas fell to 13-11, 5-5.

Benicia 66, Ygnacio Valley 56

Benicia kept its hopes alive to finish atop the DAL regular-season standings, sending Ygnacio Valley to its first league defeat.

The result left Benicia with a 17-7, 9-2 record. The Panthers have one league game left, Wednesday at home against Clayton Valley, which is 8-2 in league play.

Benicia and Clayton Valley both need to win Wednesday and hope that that the YV-Campo winner loses its regular-season finale. YV finishes its league schedule Friday at Miramonte.

Clayton Valley wraps up its league schedule Friday at home against Berean Christian.

For Ygnacio Valley on Monday, Loyal Morris (16 points), Antonio Kellogg Jr. (15 points) and Todd Tatom Jr. (11 points) scored in double figures.

Branham 47, Christopher 42

Branham, playing at home in San Jose, extended its winning streak to 15 games with a victory over Christopher in Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division play.

The result sets the stage for a first-place showdown on Wednesday when Santa Teresa visits Branham.

Santa Teresa is one game behind Branham, which won on the road over the Saints 70-69 in the first half of league play.

In its win Monday, Branham soared to a 13-4 advantage after the first quarter and then held on.

Dason Poston (15 points) and Ben Lim (10 points) were Branham’s leading scores.

The Bruins improved to 19-1, 8-0. Their only loss was to St. Francis of Watsonville 68-66 in overtime on Dec. 1.

Christopher is 8-10, 3-4.

Moreau Catholic 97, Washington-Fremont 79

Moreau stayed perfect in Mission Valley Athletic League play as Dominic Walker scored 30 points to lead the Mariners to a victory on the road over Washington.

Spencer Shonnard and Kevin Chapman (12 points each), Jalen Arnold (11 points) and Kareem Jackson Jr. and Cole Loud (10 points apiece) also scored in double figures for Moreau.

The Mariners are 15-7, 10-0. Washington dropped to 14-8, 6-4.

Girls basketball

Pinewood 84, Notre Dame-San Jose 30

Alex Facelo had the hot hand for Pinewood, scoring 30 points on 9-of-12 shooting, as the Panthers breezed on the road over Notre Dame in West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division play.

The visitors also got 11 points from Katherine Garr and 10 points apiece from Caitlyn Kramer and Jolyn Ding as they improved to 14-4, 6-0.

Notre Dame is 8-9, 1-4.

Salesian 53, St. Mary’s-Berkeley 32

Ayla Rege scored 17 points, Madalyn Kanazawa added 14 points and Kamari Johnson chipped in with 10 points as Salesian prevailed on the road over St. Mary’s in Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division play.

Elia Kudemus and Tatiana Wilson each scored nine points for St. Mary’s.

Salesian improved to 13-9, 7-0. St. Mary’s fell to 10-12, 3-5.
