The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 18, said a press release issued Wednesday, Jan. 31, by the Los Angeles Police Department.

A woman was eating in a patio dining area on South Grand Avenue when another woman grabbed her French bulldog, Onyx,  and fled to a Kia sedan driven by a man.

The dog’s owner jumped onto the car’s hood, but the driver didn’t stop. The video shows the car southbound on Grand at Eighth Street.

The woman fell from the car and suffered minor abrasions, the police said. The dog and the suspects have not been found.

The popularity of French bulldogs has driven the price of a puppy to $5,000 or more, making them targets for thieves. In a high-profile 2021 case, Lady Gaga’s dogwalker was shot in Hollywood by people who stole two of the star’s French bulldogs; the man recovered, and the dogs were turned in to the police. Similar crimes have been reported in San Jose and Oakland.
