No. 5 San Ramon Valley 80, No. 4 Granada 56
Two weeks ago, Granada beat San Ramon Valley on its home floor in a game that came down to the final shot.
This time around in the same gym in Livermore, SRV left no doubt as it blew out the Matadors in an East Bay Athletic League tournament semifinal.
SRV junior Luke Isaak scored a game-high 25 points, Mason Thomas added 14 and Matthew Diekmann and Elliot Conley each had 12. The Wolves made 11 3-pointers as a team as they advance to play at De La Salle in the final on Saturday.
“We were locked in,” SRV coach Brian Botteen said. “Last time we played here things didn’t work out our way. Two weeks ago we said we wanted to come back here and win, so there was a little bit more incentive. (Granada) is a great team, but we were just locked in.”
Isaak added, “We had a lot of motivation from the last time we played these guys. There was a lot of talk between both schools, but we just came in motivated to beat these guys.”
The Wolves held a small lead in the first half, but hot shooting kept them ahead. SRV made six 3-pointers in the first two quarters and went into halftime with a 38-32 lead.
SRV put the pressure on in the third quarter and didn’t look back. The halftime lead ballooned to 16 when center Seamus Deely hit a fadeaway jumper from the top of the key at the buzzer. That basket made the score 59-43 going into the fourth quarter.
The Matadors had no answer on either end of the floor.
With five minutes left in the fourth, Isaak stole a Granada inbound pass to push SRV’s lead to 71-45. The Wolves held their largest lead of the game after a Conley transition layup gave SRV a 28-point lead with just over two minutes left.
SRV held Granada to only 24 points in the second half. Granada coach Quaran Johnson believed the six-day gap from when his team last played contributed to the loss.
“One-hundred percent,” Johnson said when asked if his players were rusty from the layoff. “Not playing for that many days is not good for teenagers.”
There is a chance that both teams see each other again in the North Coast Section Open Division playoffs.
SRV is fourth and Granada is fifth in MaxPreps’ North Coast Section computer rankings. If the NCS seeds its teams in that order on Sunday, SRV and Granada would play in the first round.
“I think we’re ahead of Granada now in the Open,” Botteen said. “If we do play them again, it has to be in our gym.”

No. 1 Salesian 90, De Anza 50
Salesian stretched its winning streak to 14 games, outscoring De Anza 31-6 in the opening quarter as it breezed into the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division tournament final on Saturday.
Alvin Loving (11 points) and Carlton Perrilliat (10 points) led another balanced scoring attack for Salesian, which will play St. Patrick-St. Vincent for the league championship at Contra Costa College. Tip-off Saturday is 7 p.m.
Salesian improved to 26-1. De Anza is 7-18.
Ahmari Otis (22 points) and Jacari Madison (14 points) were De Anza’s top scorers.
No. 19 Clayton Valley Charter 57, No. 20 Campolindo 54
Clayton Valley Charter coach Frank Allocco Jr. said Jaden McClane only basket was the biggest shot of the night. McClane buried three-pointer with under two minutes left to give CVC a lead it would not relinquish.
Clayton Valley Charter will play at Ygnacio Valley for the Diablo Athletic League tournament championship on Saturday.
Guard James Moore did most of the heavy-lifting on offense, scoring 23 points while no other CVC player hit double-figures. However, Justin Underwood got close with nine points, Chase Robertson scored eight and Vince Ellis put in seven.
Clayton Valley Charter improved to 21-7 after winning its seventh straight game.
Campolindo, which dropped to 21-7, got a team-high 20 points from Gavin Rendle. Dylan Mansour scored 15 points for the Cougars.
Palo Alto 57, Mountain View 45
Jorell Clark finished with 22 points as Palo Alto prevailed on the road over Mountain View to remain tied with Los Gatos atop the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division standings with one game to go.
Palo Alto closes out the league schedule at home on Tuesday against Los Gatos.
On Thursday, the Vikings got eight points from Alaap Nair and seven from Riley Yuen.
Jaden Feller (13 points) and Jayden Minor (eight points) were Mountain View’s top scorers.
Palo Alto improved to 17-6, 8-3. Mountain View is 16-8, 7-5.
Los Gatos 71, Gunn 41
Nolan Koch scored 16 points, Joey Rabitz added 11 points and Max Brin had 10 points to lead Los Gatos to a victory at home over Gunn in SCVAL De Anza play.
The Wildcats improved to 17-6, 8-3. Gunn dropped to 11-12, 2-9.
Ethan Kitch (16 points) and Charlie Gibbons (11 points) led the way for Gunn.
Girls basketball
No. 2 San Ramon Valley 66, Monte Vista 44
San Ramon Valley secured a rematch with Carondelet in the EBAL title game after it routed Danville rival Monte Vista.
Sofia Bowes led with 14 points, Sierra Chambers had 11 and Amanda Kerner put in 10. Rachel Setiwan scored eight points, as did Ella Gunderson.
Monte Vista’s Alyssa Rudd scored 22 points to lead all players, and Mahi Jariwala had eight points. SRV led the Mustangs by 27 at halftime.
San Ramon Valley improved to 26-1, while Monte Vista dropped to 17-11. The Wolves will play host to Carondelet on Saturday.
No. 3 Carondelet 59, No. 15 California 40
Carondelet enjoyed a balanced scoring effort as Kelly Sopak’s Cougars set up an EBAL championship rematch with San Ramon Valley.
Senior forward Katie Kostolansky led Carondelet with 14 points, Janel Nevares scored eight points, all in the second half, and Layla Dixon had seven.
Lauren Yee led California with 11 points, and Trinity Chu scored 10 while also passing out three assists. Sofie Addiego had seven points and five rebounds, and Taylor Lim scored seven points and put up three blocks.
Carondelet improved to 24-3, and California dropped to 23-3.
No. 5 Acalanes 70, Northgate 42
There was no drama surrounding whether or not Acalanes (24-4) would reach the DAL title game, with the Acalanes leading 35-17 after one half.
Karyss Lacanlale scored a game-high 27 points for the Acalanes, which will play Miramonte in the final on Saturday. Teammate Dulci Vail scored an even 20 points to complement her point guard.
Amelia Schrag paced Northgate (20-9) with 11 points, and Hana Neuman had 10 points.
No. 17 Miramonte 57, No. 20 Mt. Diablo 52
Karena Eberts scored 12 points and broke the program’s rebounding record as Miramonte slipped by Mt. Diablo and set up a DAL title game matchup with Acalanes.
Eberts now has 1,120 rebounds, breaking Breanna Alford’s record of 1,112.
Quinn Ferguson had the hot hand for Miramonte, scoring 15 points to pace the Mats (19-9). Sophomore guard Maegan Eichenberger joined her teammates in double-figures with 10 ponts.
Makayla Powell poured in 13 points for Mt. Diablo (22-6), and Natalie Dance had 11. Stephanie Zuniga scored 10, and Carlesia Adams scored seven points.
No. 16 Salesian 57, St. Mary’s-Berkeley 40
Salesian outscored St. Mary’s-Berkeley 18-2 in the first quarter, and the Panthers never recovered as The Pride cruised to the Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division championship game.
Janiya Sawyer was unstoppable, scoring 26 points and hitting three 3-pointers while also grabbing 11 rebounds for Salesian. Ayla Rege chipped in 18 points and also connected on a trio of triples for Salesian, which improved to 17-10.
Sophomore Gaby Clement scored 18 points to pace St. Mary’s, and Neiyah Thompson had 12 as the Panthers dropped to 12-14.
Boys Soccer
No. 4 Monte Vista 1, San Ramon Valley 0
Senior James Downes scored the lone goal as the Mustangs defeated San Ramon Valley in the EBAL tournament semifinals.
Monte Vista’s defense stepped up big time, allowing no shots on goal as the Mustangs improved to 2-0-1 against rival SRV this season.
The Mustangs will host Dougherty Valley in the final on Saturday.
No. 15 Dougherty Valley 3, No. 3 De La Salle 0
Matas Drevinskas scored two goals to lead the Wildcats in an upset win over De La Salle on the road in the EBAL tournament semifinals.
Lucas Lee added a goal and Shota Lam had an assist as Dougherty Valley advanced to play Monte Vista on Saturday in the final.
Girls Soccer
No. 3 Carondelet 1, No. 7 Monte Vista 0
It took two overtimes, but the Cougars eventually survived a hard-fought semifinal on the road to advance to the EBAL tournament final.
In the first minute of the second overtime period, sophomore Elle Sloan found junior Samantha Walker, who fired in the game-winning goal.

Carondelet, which took 31 shots, will face Amador Valley in the final on Saturday.
No. 6 Amador Valley 2, No. 5 San Ramon Valley 1
The Dons avenged their regular-season loss to SRV by beating the Wolves in the EBAL tournament semifinals.
Maylen Montoya scored a goal and assisted on another for Amador Valley. Freshman Ashley Dodson scored SRV’s only goal.
The Dons advance to the EBAL tournament final on Saturday against Carondelet.
