PITTSBURG — A man who was fatally hit by a vehicle while walking on an avenue early Saturday has been identified by authorities.

Tony Weems, 36, was down in the 1200 block of Railroad Avenue when officers arrived about 1:35 a.m., Pittsburg police Lt. James Terry said. He died while on the way to a hospital.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office released Weems’ identity.
Police arrested a 42-year-old woman on suspicion of vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run, Terry said. Police will not submit the case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges until the results of toxicology tests are known, he added.
The woman was not in custody Tuesday morning, according to jail records.
According to Terry, the woman drove to her home in the 100 block of Halsey Way after the crash that killed Weems. Officers found the vehicle there hours later and arrested the woman without incident.
